Forever Nippon 日本永遠に

年末にパパとJINGOという店にちょっと挨拶するために行った。
みんな覚えてるかな？もう去年ちょっとこのブログポスト書いた。
たまに遊びにいくけど、今回、パパの紹介したかった、せっかく日本に来てくれたので。
Before the end of the year, I dropped by my friends at JINGO (you may recall I've written about them before) partly to say hi and give my best wishes for the new year and partly to introduce my dad (since he was visiting). I drop by on occasion and hang out there, and never fail to have an interesting conversation about something. Last time I believe the topic "Do Moomin actually *always* have eyebrows?" came up; a particular favorite of mine. ^^)b
(Answer: yes.)

初めてハマダさんに会った時、店の事と写真をブログに載せるのを許してくれた。
本当に今まで、いや、ずっと、その事は感謝です。^^
I'm still incredibly grateful that Hamada-san allowed me to blog about his shop, simple as the post was, the first time I met him. In a lot of cases people are reluctant to allow photos being taken in shops, and if you even mention writing about them online they get this crazy-scared look in their eye, so it really meant a lot to me - especially since I was still "new" in Tokyo at the time.

嬉しい過ぎー！
ありがとうございます、本当に！
Anyway, what I wasn't expecting, was to be gifted one of his extraordinary t-shirts! I'm still bowled over and I'll wear it with pride, when I'm not too scared of getting it dirty. I let Hamada-san pick the design, because how could I choose from all of their awesome styles? ^^

最近日本語を全然勉強をしないので、うまく言えないけど...

「うちの国とお前の国」じゃなくて、「世界は一緒だ、万国はいいところだ」な感じ。
いや、やっぱあまりうまく言えない、すみません。

I wrote about my thoughts on "the right kind of" patriotism in my original post, so I'm not going to rehash that, but I do honestly think that Japan is in need of some good, honest "I heart my country" action coupled with some great stylistic presentation. Just sayin'. ^^

In December I was fortunate enough to participate in the filming of Robert de Boron's "Home", which is the lead track on his new album (released in-store today!), Mellow Candle.
It was filmed using a Lomography LomoKino camera, which gives it "indies cred" bonus points, I'm sure.
12月にRobert de Boronが作った「Home」という曲のPV撮影参加しました！
全編35mmフィルム手巻きムービーカメラ「LomoKino (ロモキノ)」で撮影された作品です！

The album was released on iTunes Japan on the 28th of December and reached nr 1 on the iTunes Hip Hop/R'n'B listings. Congratulations!
アルバムはもう2011.12.28にiTunesでリリース：ヒプホプチャートで、一位になりました！

Keeping my post-a-day promise with a shorty - in August last year I took on a dare by Tokyo Telephone after reading about Kazushi Hara's amazing 2011-12 a/w collection... and found myself trotting over to Shibuya to try on a couple of his creations.

After that cryptic start, and some internal bleeding from writing Japanese in romaji, I'd like to wish you all a much belated Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Heri aa Kwanzaa, Happy New Year and any other holiday that may have been in the last month or so. Yes, it's been that long. But instead of making a long post listing all the excuses I have (some good, some not), instead I'll just play catch up. For the rest of January, I'll be posting once a day. Some entries will be long, some short, most probably rather ridiculous, none in any chronological or sensible order... but there will be one every day. That's my January resolution! I already got a head start on my resolutions for the New Year in December, because why wait, right? As cheesy as it sounds, there is only now. Last year was a whirlwind of amazing events and deep tragedy - both universally and personally. It's taken some time to get back on track and I'm not 100% there yet, but working on it. I have a lot of people to thank for the past year; no, since I've come to Japan. That'll be another post though.

サンタさん、怖っ！ Creepy, Creepy Santa

I can't believe it's already December. It's been the last month of the year for almost a whole day and it's kind of been freaking me out. I have so much I still want to do, and less than a month to do it in. If I want to do it in 2011, that is. Sure, I can postpone some of it, but pushing something back a few weeks means I'll be pushing it back until next year. That's waaaay too far away! So, I better get back to blogging I guess.
(There's a logical train of thought there, I swear.)
But before I get back into all that serious stuff, it's That Time of Year again. You know, the one with that creepy dude, Saint Nick. Don't believe me? Keep reading and I'll prove otherwise.

While I was in France, we stopped by a village/town famous for gingerbread. Well, Alsace in general is famous for it, but this place in particular has two factories/shops that have been running for a fair few years and are open to visit. I wanted to visit one of them, but... we actually ended up going to the wrong one. And it was really weird. And we found...

フランスに居た時、ちっちゃいの村に行ってきたね。
その村はジンジャーブレッドで有名です！
もちろん、スウェーデンのと違うんだ。
えっ？
どう違いますかって？
自分で食べてみて！
ごめん、ごめん！
味や形や、いろいろなところで違いますよ!
別に今の話と関係があるんだけど、その村に変な博物館あるよ：

マホに会って、もちろんちゃんと挨拶しましょう！(oﾟ▽ﾟ)ゝﾊｼﾞﾒﾏｼﾃ♪ After greeting the resident witch properly, we checked out her abode.

"The House of Gingerbread" - original. 「ジンジャーブレッドの家」が書いてる。オリジナルだね～　笑

やっぱハンセルとグレタルが出た～！ Hansel and Gretel...vandals! Destroying that poor woman's house.

この変な場所の中はね、もちろん面白いものがいっぱいだけど、今日の目的は：

Now, this "museum" as it were, had a lot of interesting...stuff. I can't say "exhibited objects", because it was frankly a bit of a mess. But in the name of December and Christmas, here's the spooky Santa collection I found:

In the name of political correctness? なんか。。。ね。(´ ▽｀)

Homeless Santa is...homeless. サンタさん：ホームレスバージョン (￣ー￣)

二人とも怪しいな～きもい～！！ヽ(ヽ>ω<) Both of them look equally dodgy

But the last one... really is a winner.

And there you have it, St. Nicholas is a pretty creepy dude. But who didn't already think that? I mean the guy breaks into people's houses when they're asleep and drinks their booze/eats their cookies... Unless you're Swedish and he at least has the decency to come to your house while you're awake. ^^)b

Some of you guessed or already knew that I was indeed in France! ^^)/
I've been back over a week now, and still trying to get into my blogging flow. It'll come eventually, I hope.
Anyway, to be more specific, I was in Strasbourg - close to the German border. The atmosphere is a bit different from other areas of the country, especially when it comes to architectural style. Enough talk, on with the pictures! I'll update on actual events later, but for now, this is what Strasbourg looks like. ^^

Nishidai is incidentally where I took the JLPT N2 mock exam. The last picture is the uni campus where the actual testing took place. I received my results the other day:

Language Knowledge (Vocabulary/Grammar): 43.2% (Average: 55.2%)

Reading: 62.5% (Average: 56.2%)

Listening: 78.6% (Average 65.8%)

The grammar bit wasn't a surprise, but I'm relatively pleased about the other sections, especially since I didn't do any extra studying for the mock exam in particular. Although I hope I did better on the real thing, the truth is I found it more difficult... so I may be taking level N2 again in December.

先日成績が届いた。

でも、模擬試験の前にあまり勉強しなかったので、悪くないと思う。

Coffee.

EVER.

まずい！！！！！
やだ。
本当に。
多分、生まれて初めて、こんなにまずいコーヒーを飲んだ。
六本木なのに、何でこんなに美味しくないものがあるの？
何で、東京なのに、美味しいコーヒーはこんなに見つけにくいの？
今まで、六本木では、これは一番美味しいコーヒー：
Now I've already talked about how important good coffee is to me. And it's seriously kind of a big deal. (Like me, hur hur - 10 points to whoever picks up where that quote is from!)
However, I'm not an unreasonable person, and when necessary, I can adapt to the current environment. When resources are scarce, I can accept this and will find alternatives.
But.
Seriously.
In the centre of one of the biggest cities in the world.
In one of the most densely populated business districts....
This is so far the best option I have found:

値段で、一番。 Considering price and flavour, this wins.

Yeah. Exactly.
And this is actually marginally better than Starbucks.
OH YEAH. I WENT THERE.

They lured me with cute cups and yummy cakes... 騙された、おいしいケーキで！。・ﾟﾟ･(≧д≦)･ﾟﾟ･｡

It was really, really bad. It tasted like they'd scraped a petri dish full of bacteria, slopped it into the pot and let it sit for three days on the stove on the next to lowest setting. Yeah, it was served to me lukewarm.
なんか、日本語で正確な描写できないけど、ほんまにまずくい！
しかも・・・温かった！！！！

To the office we go... オフィスへ！

But then I thought, no. Perhaps I'm overreacting? I am rather fussy, after all. So I took it with me to the Metropolis office and tried it again. And again. After gagging a couple of times I felt I had to vocalise the torture I was forcing upon myself, and after being met with disbelief that it couldn't be that bad, I let some of the staff there taste test it. Verdict? I should go back to the store to complain.
でもね、やっぱりコーヒーにうるさいから、ちょっとメトロポリスのオフィスに行って、皆の意見を聞いてみた。
飲んでみた前、皆は「そんなに美味しくない、信じられない」と言ったけど、後「うわ！！マジまずいこれ！」といいましたよ。

I didn't have time for that though, so in true passive aggressive form, I simply put it where it belonged:

Disclaimer: This is an unusually angry post for me. I don't really "do" angry. But I've had a tough couple of weeks, plus I'm personally offended by being served what may well be the most disgusting coffee ever. And that takes effort. ...Oh, and I still stand by my Starbucks comment. It's overpriced and although their drinks are good, their coffee is...not great. The extortionate price makes it that much worse.

I was going to be all proper and continue with the beach story, since I've gotten email requests to continue it soon. Ironically from some of the participants who already know how the story goes, so... that's...odd.

Regardless! This is my blog, I can't sleep, so in come the lulz instead. I would do one of my (not so) weekly updates, but some interesting things have cropped up lately, so I thought I'd share those instead.

So far it's been an incredibly humbling experience seeing my rather fluffy posts tucked in between such amazing and in-depth articles/reviews. I'm sure it'll be even more so on site. I'm really grateful for this amazing opportunity which landed rather unexpectedly in my lap. My life seems to be full of awesome stuff like that lately and I am certainly trying to make the most of it all.

Still on writing: I wrote the Last Word article for the print issue of Metropolis the other week week (issue 903). What did I write about? Miyazaki, of course! The place can't get a break yo.

I've actually been writing a fair bit lately, and there's a couple of projects I'm particularly excited about that should be coming up very soon. It's times like these I realise I have so much further to go still. ^^;

Sometimes I feel as if I'm waiting for my life to "get back to normal", which of course it never does. Partly because I think I somehow shun normality, or normality shuns me. At least a little bit. And partly because I love my rather crazy and incredibly wonderful life and all the people I meet through it. The only regret I have is that I don't have as much time to blog about it all as I'd like but... well, gotta make some sacrifices I guess.

The original purpose of this post was to demonstrate exactly how lulzy my life is through snippets of conversations I've had the past couple of weeks. I've left them out of certain posts and have kept names secret for the most part to protect the (not so) innocent.

Back from Rockin' Fuji ただいま！

Yesterday on the bus, finally found some semi-decent coffee 昨日、バスで。やっとコーヒー！！

Well, I'm back from almost 5 days in Naeba at Fuji Rock. An intense, but insanely fun few days. And incredibly muddy. More on that in a later post, because I have work and about 15 kilos of laundry to go through. Hope you all had a good weekend! ^^

I have a whole heap of posts planned (as usual), but due to time restrictions (as usual) I have decided to postpone posting them. Not even gonna schedule 'em. Nope.

So that means two things. One: No TKY Walking. If I have time... ..yeah, no. If I have time, I might post a mini version from the Fest.
Two: All of my blogging for the next few days will be done at Fujirock.com
That'll include band reviews, "vibe" posts, and if I'm lucky, a short interview or two.
Sorry for lack of comments/posting, but there's been a whole lotta stuff going on that will come up soon!

Until then, I look forward to seeing some comments on the Fujirock blog! ;)

Coffee Streamer Company

Have I mentioned that I love coffee before? Ahh, it may have cropped up once or twice, right? Well that's okay, because I believe coffee loves me too. I truly do.But unlike most couples, in the heat of summer, our love affair stagnates. Yes, sad but true. I still love coffee, but it's just too hot to handle. And should it decide to cool down and get icy...well, that's okay too, but... it's just not the same. We have our issues, we're working through them. One solution though, since straight on the rocks doesn't really do it for me, is to go latte. Being slightly lactose intolerant this is still not an ideal solution - but as it turns out, if it's an Iced Revolver Latte from Coffee Streamer Company, then there's still hope for our relationship.

Iced Revolver Latteはこんな大変な暑さでぴったり！(v^ー°)

I'd had the place recommended through Cafe-Master and went there for the first time the other day for a business catch up with Miss Wave. Incidentally, we totally didn't behave. Loved it there, though.
The place not only has delicious ice lattes, but also really really cute proper latte art hot coffees (will try one next time), a stylish interior, decent levels of aircon, free wi-fi, yummy cakes and really friendly staff.
Although all of the above factors are reason enough to go back, it's probably the free wi-fi that will cause me to move in there. Sorry in advance, guys. (^^; )

Apart from the incredibly cool name and delicious contents, one of the key points of the Revelover Latte is the glass mug it's served in. I desperately wanted one. Or, you know, 5 of them. Thankfully you don't have to smuggle them under your shirt on the way out (because let's face it, that's a mean feat in current hot and muggy conditions - not wearing enough fabric to cover the darned thing) because they sell them there at the cafe. Let the collecting begin.
They also sell other goods like original design t-shirts etc, but they don't ship internationally, sorry.
Ice Revolver Latteのキーポイントはもちろんコーヒーの美味しさだけど、もうひとつがるよ。

To the Beach! (Part 2) 海へ！（パート２）

I believe this is where I left off last time:
先日止めたところはここかな？(ﾟｰ^*)

Well. Being faced with Japanese dogeza is quite a serious matter. While my friend and I were considering our options (hiding and running back to the minshuku weren't really viable), the situation escalated into this:
なんかさ、土下座に直面したたら、結構深刻なことっすね。(ﾟ∇ﾟ;)
友達とちょっと困ったで、「どうしよう」と思って・・・(ノ_<。)
この困難な事態が拗らせた！((((( ;ﾟДﾟ))))

なにこれ！？まだ大事なビールと携帯とタバコもを持ってるね。

Well, what's a girl to do? Well, we could only give in and do as they asked - which was to take lulzy pictures with them.
しょうがないな～ヾ(;´▽｀)
彼らの要求に屈伏した。

最初はなんか普通けど・・・
It started out normal enough, then got lulzier after that...

Lulzy boys. もう一人がいるな！ There's one more though!

Japanese cactus. It's better not to ask. サボテン。(´･ω･`;)

友達：「やれやれ！」 Love her expression "Oh brother..."(^m^ )

Turns out the boys were pretty fun, and we ended up hanging out again after the amazing dinner I already posted last time.
やつらは結構面白いので、あの凄く美味しい夕食の後、また遊んでた。

おばあちゃんは逃げてしまった！ Granny ran away!

There's a story here as well. We were petting this old lady's dog, when one of the guys asked "Is it okay to hug him?"
She said "Ahh no, he probably wouldn't like that."
Reply "Oh, well how about you then?" (Chasing of granny ensues.)
ここもなんかエピソードがあった。
みんなは犬を触ってね。
誰かはおばあちゃんに聞いて「ワンちゃんを抱きしめていい？」
おばあちゃん：「いや、それはちょっと・・・」
答え：「じゃ、おばあちゃんは？」
彼はおばあちゃんを追跡した。(￣▼￣|||)

またかわいい犬を見つけた！ Yup, we found another one. (More to come later)

He looks kinda traumatized. トラウマみたいねΨ(￣∀￣)Ψ

We ended up having a few drinks on the beach - and getting the drinks is a story on its own. I have never before stood in front of a vending machine repeatedly punching the beer button until the machine was sold out. I have never ever felt like such an alco (despite only drinking one) and I hope to never again. Anyway. At some point it was decided that playing catch the flag in the middle of the dark was a good idea. (Whose!?) We had no flag, but the guys found a stick and a grapefruit lying on the beach. (...yes, a grapefruit. No, I don't know what it was doing there either.) And more lulziness ensued, including English Shitori, where for some reason, I was the first one to be kicked out.And remember, I only had one drink. Fail.
Anyway, time was short - we had curfews (back at the minshuku by 11pm or owner lady locks you out!) and arranged to meet at the beach again the next morning.
ビーチで飲んだけど、お酒を買った時はものすごい恥ずかしかったよ！((((￣_￣；）
自動販売機の前に、ビールを完売まで買って...初めてっす！(;-_-)
まぁ、いいか！
その後ビーチフラッグをした。(oﾟ▽ﾟ)o
真っ黒なのに。(・＿・；）
フラッグを持ってなかったのに。(￣∇￣;)
（棒とグレープフルーツを使った。うん、グレープフルーツだよ！ビーチで見つけた。）
それと「英語しりとり」もした。
最初の負けた奴は・・・

お酒を一缶しか飲まなかったのに。　ORZ
英語は母国語なのに。ｶﾞーーー（TДT|||）ーーーﾝ

まぁまぁ！
時間制限があったので、早く民宿に帰って。
その前に次の日も予定を決めた。

Before bed though, friend and I got hungry because of this show, featuring former prime minister Koizumi's hothothot actor son, who was cooking Korean food on TV.
寝る前、テレビを見ながら凄くお腹がスゲー空いちゃった。

美味しい韓国料を作ったから
ずるい！

"He put the stuff he dropped into the bowl"! Three second rule I guess?三秒ルールだ！(*´pq｀)ｸｽｯ

Yeah, he's a looker. Can't help thinking he looks a bit Korean tho. Just me?

The next morning I was wide awake at 6am, ready to go out for a quick swim and a run before breakfast! ...but I decided not to go and went back to sleep instead. But I did have breakfast, so here's what that looked like:
日曜日の朝に、朝ごはん前海に泳ぐつもりだったね。
6時にすっかり目が覚めました。(o^∇^o)
でも、また寝てしまった！(´Д｀ι)
朝ご飯をちゃんと食べたけど！ (o^∇^o)ノ

To the Beach! (Part 1) 海へ（パート１）

On Saturday, I went with a friend to Izu, about 3 and a half hours away from Tokyo (by train and bus) for some much needed R&R.

The weather was great and I was super, super-excited about it.

Ahhh, I love the beach, but I love the ocean more.

先週末友達と伊豆に行ったよ～

The trip there was a pretty refreshing experience. The further we got away from Tokyo the greener it got and the fresher the air seemed.

I love the city, but it felt so good to get away.

Upon arrival we dumped our stuff at the minshuku (inn, or "private home providing lodging for travellers") and I literally ran to the beach. It was fantastic. The summer season hadn't started yet, so there was almost no one around.

民宿に着いたから、すぐ着替えて、走れた。

うん、走れた。ε=ε=ε=ヾ(＠°▽°＠)ﾉ

The water was a bit cool, but by Swedish standards it was well above the minimum "it's okay to swim without dying of hypothermia" level. (In case your wondering, the cutoff temperature is exactly 19C. Yeah, I know.)

Anyway, we walked along the beach, did some sand exfoliation (seriously, Brazilian girls do it all the time!) and just hung out until it was soon time for dinner.

数日前に雨が降ったので普通にきれいじゃなかったけど、まだ奇麗！

しかも！！人が少ないし、海は暖かいし！

。。。ああ、そうだ。それはスウェーデンのスタンダードで「暖かい」かな？(^ε^)♪

スウェーデンでは、「夏の海で遊ぶの完璧な温度」は19Cからです。

ふふふ、寒い？( ´艸｀)

As we were staying at a minshuku, dinner was served promptly at 6pm to our room, so it was pretty important that we get there in time to rinse off salt and sand beforehand.

We began to make our way back to get our stuff and then go, but we were held up.

そのままで民宿に帰って、夕食を食べて、テレビを見てつもりだった。

Hmm, perhaps not so much the content or even the way of doing it... but I'm most proud of the JINGO post because it signifies big (personal and blog development wise) step for me. It was the first time I'd asked to do a proper post on a shop/designer in Japanese and the fact that I actually went through with it is a Big Deal. For me. これはね、JINGOのデザイナーの。自慢は自分ができることをわかる感じになったから。怖くても、日本語で「ブログで載せても良いですか」を聞いたよ。

...you amuse me in so many ways.
I have basically not been in front of my computer save for some quick emails and some other writing all week. I've also barely been at home (which is normal enough) and thus not studied for the JLPT, which was yesterday. I've also start about half a dozen posts that...are...not finished. So, in lieu of writing something well prepared and sensible, I decided to just to a random "this is some stuff that has happened" lately kinda thing.
I *will* do a proper post soon enough. Promise.

Loco in Yokohama held a "Hot Fun in the Summertime" blog matsuri this week and I really wanted to submit a post, but... well, I didn't. But if I had, this is what it would have looked like.

Sitting about 5-10 metres away from La Foret's entrance, I could still feel a cool breeze coming from the aircon. It was nice and all, but so much for energy saving. Geez. Oh, and I'm in love with that yukata.

そしてね、東京は大体綺麗だけど、土曜日の早朝に全然そんなことなな～
Tokyo's generally a pretty clean place, but that's not the case on early Saturday mornings.

Well, after my rather out-of-character emo post from the other day, I really, really needed a fix-me-up. Thank goodness I already had some much needed fun time planned.

By the power invested in me by supportive family members, good coffee, great music and general lulziness with old and new friends, I am officially back to my standard genki mode.
(By the way, hot coffee + vanilla ice cream = SUPER WIN. And yet I'll never stoop down so low as to ingest a coffee float. Odd.)

...if a bit tired. But that's what the coffee is for, so we're all good. Everything hasn't come up roses yet, but at least I'm worrying less and doing more - the way it's supposed to be.

Here's a summary of what brought me back to life:

First time at Shibuya-AX, not so impressed with the venue tbh. 初めて渋谷ＡＸ

あ、そうだ20日はきりショーの誕生日なので、22日にも誕生グッズ買えた。 Tons of goods in honour of Kiri Sho'S bday were abound

これすごいでしょう？一番人気なスタンド花かも～ Congratulatory flower stand. This one was particularly awesome. Ahem.

素晴らしいイラストね！　じゅんじゅんとキリショーのツーショット Talented artist (so wanted to steal the Jun one ;P) - no idea who drew these, sadly.

誕生日のスタンドもあった！なんかＴＡＭＩＹＡの色だけど、アメリカっぽいな！Some stands in honour of vocalist Kiri Sho's birthday - the red white and blue ain't American patriotism, but the colours of TAMIYA - his fave brand.

物販はこれだけですけど、またキリショーだ！(^▽^;) I didn't fall for the goods this time, but I love a good gatchapon. I always get Kiri Sho though, sup with that?

でも打ち上げで、「じゅんじゅんファン」と言ったから、こんないっぱいなじゅんじゅんバッジを頂いた！皆、泣きそうよ！嬉しい、本当にありがとう！o(；△；)o At the after party, I had barely uttered the words "I'm a Junjun fan" and these piled up in front of me. Those girls are so sweet, I almost cried.

またライブでいい人に出会う出来たね！
チョー楽しかった！
I keep meeting awesome people when I go to shows, something I'm overwhelmed by each and every time.

I have a whole heap of decisions before me at the moment, and as a result I'm thinking of "home" a lot more recently. Home isn't a place for me really though, it's the above furry ball of nonsense that spends most of her time trying to ignore me.
I found these videos on my iPod the other night - I'd completely forgotten that they were there, and that I'd ever taken them in the first place. I'm not ashamed to admit the first one made me cry when I watched it. （Ｔ－Ｔ） The last one made me laugh though, since it combines two loves - the dog and Golden Bomber. (^_~） Today I'll be setting off for a Golden Bomber concert and I'm hoping, that at least for a couple of hours, it'll take my mind off of everything.

なんかさ。
実は最近ちょっと思い感じだけど、いろんな大事な決心をするべきだ。
だから、考えはよくいい所に戻る。
っていうか、いい所より宝物ね。
このバカなし、ひどいし、凄くかわいい犬今会いたい。

Saiko is 最高

Nope, couldn't come up with anything more original than that, sorry.
A couple of weeks ago I was graciously invited to attend Rock Chick's Revenge (Saiko vol.8) event, which was a charity event in aid of Tohoku Earthquake relief. All proceeds went to Peace Boat's relief efforts in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture. If you'd like to volunteer with Peace Boat or donate money, find out more here.
や、あの二週間前の話ですけど、Saiko vol.8 Rock Chick's Revengeの東北チャリティイベントに招待された。
収益は宮城県収益はの石巻のためにですよ。
ピースボートのボランティアをしたいと思ったら、もっと詳しくはこちらです～

As you can guess, the theme was Rock Chicks, but what the Rock Gods had done to them I do not know. All I know is all the bands were fierce! My absolute, absolute favourite though, was Jonny. The vocalist and frontwoman Mio is like Courtney Love but without the bad make up and much, much cooler.
This is kind of what they're like:

Take that and then make it a zillion times more dynamic and crazy and you have what they're like live. They have some live videos on their Youtube channel, but the sound quality isn't so good, sadly. Definitely worth checking out though, and I'm hoping I can see them when they come back to TKY in July.

Due to lack of time I'll make this short, but on Saturday I saw these two very lulzy boys DJing/entertaining. Some of you may know where I was or figure out from the videos... but more on that later.
Here are said lulzy boys "オーロラ三人娘/Aurora 3nin Muzume practising for and recording a music video for their single that came out in March, "オムライス/Omurice".
The video's been a bit delayed in the making due to the earthquake, but you can see kind of where it's going.

And yes, the title is Omu Rice. And the tag line is "The secret of omurice". Like I said, lulzy.

Oh and one more note - it's two guys who make up the group, despite their group name saying there's three people... and despite a third guy in the practice video. (He's the guy dresses up in the Biju tan (Bijutan= most famous cat in Visual Kei) outfit at events, hence the covering of his face.) The main two are Emiru from Aicle and SARINO from Annie's Black.

Weekly Update 2011.06.17 ウィークリーアップデート

前回はもう二週間前になちゃったけどね。
最近いろんな考えがあるので・・・
まぁ、それは別なポストでね！
（でもだから半分だけぐらい日本語で、ごめんあさい～）

Well, it's more than 2 weeks since the last one, but regardless. Things are Afoot. Whether big or small and where they'll take me, I don't really know, but the lack of proper posting has been a combination of Things I Need To Think About, Lack of Time, Much Needed Rest and a random attack of Omg What Am I Doing Paralysis. All that will come in another post, for now here's some stuff I think you should know about this week.

Music/TV/Etc

Next Wednesday is SCREW TV vol. 9 at musicJAPANplus. Live online streaming, starting at 9pm JST. Just go to the main page and the screen will magically appear shortly before the show begins.　SCREW TVの生放送は来週の水曜日ですよ～　9時から、musicJAPANplusのトップページで見れる。是非見てね～

My buds over at Limitbreak have started posting live recordings of their songs."Wanderer" came first and just last week they published one of my favourites, "Open My Eyes". Bonus points for crotch shots in the opening 30 seconds. They claim "focus on instruments"...and yes, well, you could put it that way I suppose. (^-^;)　Limitbreakというのバンドは最近ライブセッションというビデオを展示しました。このビデオは好きな"Open My Eyes"の曲です。

On top of that, they're now collecting footage for their upcoming video "Transmission" - definitely something to look forward to!　次の"Transmission"という曲はもうすぐ展示ですよ～

I love dramas and all, but I usually avoid watching them for a few reasons. 1. I hate cliffhangers and I want to see the whole story in one go. (So I prefer waiting until it's on DVD.) 2. I always miss episodes when aired on TV because I forget what time/year/day it is. 3. Once I do get started watching, as I said - I have to watch it all in one go, and then I get nothing done. So although there are some exciting dramas coming up soon, I won't be watching them for another 6 months or so. What these exciting dramas are? Well! They're re-making the Japanese drama Hana Kimi, for starters. (As in, they're rehashing the same story with a new cast - they're already done a Korean version, so...why not redo the Japanese one?) There will also be a Japanese version of Korean drama "You're Beautiful", but most exciting... MOST EXCITING IS: They're making a drama out of the anime/manga Ouran High School Host Club. Yes, yes, I can hear your squealing from here. I'm rather excited too, but...more excited over the fact that because a Japanese version is being made, then a Korean one is sure to follow soon after. (I'll be explaining why in another post. :P) 今年いいドラマがいっぱいですね！「ハナキミ」のリメークと「イケメンですね」韓国のリメークと「桜蘭高校ホスト部」もあるよ～　チョー楽しみです！

My Stuff

This week I met up with Caroline Josephine of Spooning with a Schoolboy and had a great time trying on wigs (I feel a bit bad for the store attendant, I was rather demanding...definitely got ideas for a custom one though!) and drinking organic coffee. She went blond and I think both the shade and style really suits her!
A couple of weeks back I met up with Ms Moon again for Pirates fun and long chats! (And I still need to post about our other adventures!)
and also Miss Wave for some face cake at Chocoholic Cafe.
During my emo corning/taking it easy weekend I watched a whole heap of movies that I'd gotten from Moa. Because... she sent me a package!! With a MOOMIN book! And chocolate! It really made my week and I'm so grateful. Thank yooooou! モアちゃんから包みを受け取った～！嬉しい！大好きなムーミンの本とチョコレートを貰った！しかも映画もありました。

The movies I watched: Tangled, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and I Rymden Finns Inga Känslor (English title: Simple Simon), Tangled was nice, in a Disney kind of way, which works since...well...it's Disney. I looooooooved Scott Pilgrim - a fantastic mix of nostalgic old school gamer references, indie bands and awesome hair dying (envy!). What more could you ask for? As for the Swedish one, I actally really liked it... but... 2 things bothered me. 1. I started crushing on the main character, who has Aspergers Syndrome. That's not a good sign. 2. Said character really, really reminded me of someone I know, but I couldn't figure out who, until yesterday it clicked.....

Limitbreak's Max = Simple Simon (buuuuuurn!) They even have the drum set in common! This pic's actually terrible, but if you check both the PV and the movie out, you'll see what I mean. (Sorry Max! ^^;)

I found time to try out one of the new QPOT and Kirin collaboration products, namely their milk tea. It was indeed very sweet, but pretty good nonetheless.　ＱＰＯＴ大好き。ミルクティーも好き。だから、これは最高でしょう？！

Oh, and I had another one of those "Where do you think I'm going wearing this?" days, so here's the pic and the update on where/when/etc will be up soon. ^^　これは「このカッコでどこに行くでしょうか」　・・・答えはすぐにアップするよ～。

And finally, I was accepted for the JLPT N2 practice exam, which will take place this coming Sunday. I'm happy to get an extra chance to get into the test groove, but it's going to be tough. Wish me luck! 最後は、日曜日に日本語検定の練習試験受けることなので、ちょっと不安な。でもやっぱり練習がいいね！　頑張ります～
